Ontario Hockey Academy Mavericks (7) vs King’s Edgehill School (4) East CCM
Twenty-four hours after a 6-3 loss in the same building, the Mavericks came back to Newport Arena on a six-game losing streak. This time, every punch King’s Edgehill threw got one straight back. Defenceman Tomas Host (1G) opened the scoring, Eeli Salminen (1G, 1A) tied it, and Nathan Kabwe (2G) put OHAM back in front on a first-period power play. That set the pattern. When Alex Hannah (2G) cut it to 3-2 early in the second, Adam Fidrmuc (1G) answered with the extra man 73 seconds later, and Alex Lepage (1G, 1A) stretched the lead to 5-2. KES pushed again in the third. Grady Betts (1G, 1A) scored, then Hannah (2G) finished a scramble at the crease, and the home side was within one with half a period left. Marts Katins (1G, 1A) restored the two-goal cushion, and Kabwe (2G) sealed it into the empty net with 26 seconds to go. Bryson Boivin (1G, 2A) had a hand in three of the seven.
RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (8) vs North Shore Warriors (1) Women’s U18 Prep
RINK Kelowna arrived at North Shore Winter Club with 13 goals in six games. The visitors scored eight in one afternoon, and Lylah Dietz (3G, 1A) supplied three of them, the first three goals of her season. Her day started with a helper on Lauren Xu’s (1G, 1A) power-play goal less than two minutes in. Dietz (3G, 1A) then cashed in on a power play of her own later in the first, and by the time she completed the hat-trick at 9:08 of the second, the scoreboard read 6-0. Blueliner Kinley Sisson (1G, 3A) matched her point for point. She set up three goals and potted one with the extra man 33 seconds before the second intermission. Sienna Dammann (1G, 1A) and Sadie Green (1G, 1A) added two-point games, and Ava Hrubeniuk (1G) made it 8-0 early in the third. Emilee Klapak was perfect in the RHAK crease until the final eight minutes, when Sarah Ewanyshyn (1G) found a way through on a North Shore power play.
Edge School (5/OT) vs OHA Edmonton (4) U15 Prep
Seventy seconds into overtime, Gio Niven (1G) settled an afternoon in which nobody could hold a lead. Defenceman Josh Pomeroy (2A) set up the winner, his second helper of the day, and Edge left Kinsmen Twin Arenas with a 5-4 victory. Ian Kim (2G, 2A) opened the scoring on his own in the first, but OHA Edmonton flipped it in the second through Max Holland (1G) and Brody Schwartz (1G). Nazar Shmatok (2G) pulled the visitors even late in the period. The third went back and forth. Cohen Courchesne (1G, 1A) put the home side in front from a pile-up in the Edge crease, and 52 seconds later Kim (2G, 2A) answered, again unassisted. Shmatok (2G) cashed in on a boarding minor for a 4-3 lead, but Kiptyn Bodnar (1G, 1A) levelled it with under six minutes to go. Between the pipes, David Tisdale (33/37) and Jace Hilliard (34/39) were rarely idle. Edge’s winning streak now sits at four.
Okanagan Hockey Academy (3) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (1) U15 Prep
RINK Kelowna did nearly everything right at Rutland Arena except beat Oakley Speckman. The OHA netminder turned aside 40 of 41 shots, and his busiest stretch came in the second. The home side outshot OHA 19-8 in that period and still trailed on Nolan Gallagher’s (1G) opener, set up by Tyson Tietz (1A). The only puck to get past him needed a two-man advantage. Early in the third, with OHA killing two minors at once, defenceman Cooper Krause (1G) finished a scramble in front with Speckman down, on a feed from Hendrik Hesselgrave (1A). It was RHAK’s first power-play goal of the season after an 0-for-10 start. The tie lasted less than three minutes. Mason Liebel (1G) restored the lead on a setup from Isaac Zeeman (1A), and another blueliner padded it midway through the period: Ben Delege (1G), from Creedence Gabriel (1A), with his first goal of the season.
Yale Hockey Academy (5) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (1) U15
Yale Hockey Academy made it three straight wins at Westhills Arena, and nearly all of it ran through two sticks. Carter Jackson (1G, 3A) and Jase Chyld (2G, 2A) combined on four of YHA’s five goals, starting with a first-period power play on which Chyld (2G, 2A) fed Jackson (1G, 3A) for the opener. For 40 minutes, Pacific Coast hung around. Hunter Villecourt (31/36) kept the home side within reach, and Lincoln Carto (1G) struck for his first of the season out of a heap of bodies in the YHA crease midway through the second, set up by Jhett Gervais (1A) and defenceman Nixon Thai (1A). The tie lasted 2:31 before Jackson (1G, 3A) returned the favour for Chyld (2G, 2A). Nineteen seconds into a third-period power play, Vanik Virk (1G) made it 3-1 with both of them on the assist sheet, and Chyld (2G, 2A) closed out his four-point day late. The only YHA goal the duo didn’t touch belonged to Daniel Katalevskiy (1G), the first of his season.
Delta Hockey Academy White (3) vs BWC Academy (2) U15
If you stepped out of Burnaby Winter Club for a snack with five minutes left, you missed the part of this game that mattered. BWC Academy spent most of the third sitting on a 2-1 lead it had built late in the second. Emmett Wahl (1G, 1A) opened the scoring for Delta White in that period, but William Feng (1G) found the net for his first goal of the season, and Tanner Dickson (1G) lit the lamp with 20 seconds left before intermission. Then came the swing. Aaron Neilson (1G) tied it at 15:29 of the third off a feed from Wahl (1G, 1A) and defenceman Mason Reimer (1A). Just 37 seconds later, Mason Nishi (1G), set up by Victor Li (1A), had the go-ahead goal. BWC pulled Malcolm Mui (35/38) for the final 1:46 and used its timeout with 26 seconds to play, but Nick Zhang (36/38) didn’t give up a third. Shots finished dead even, 38 apiece.
St. George’s School (3) vs Delta Hockey Academy (1) U15 Prep
Delta Hockey Academy came into Planet Ice on a four-game winning streak, perfect at home and with seven goals allowed all season. Alex Iaichkin (1G) made it look like more of the same, scoring his 10th of the season early in the first on a setup from Jacob Pozzobon (1A) and Kayden Krestanovich (1A). Then David Itin shut the door. The St. George’s netminder stopped all 37 shots that followed, and he did it while his team killed five Delta power plays, including almost two minutes two men short in the first. Michael Sung (2G) tied it midway through that period, scoring seconds after an offensive-zone faceoff with Marcus Nuyen (1A) earning the helper. It stayed 1-1 until the third, when defenceman Henry Jiang (1G) converted a St. George’s power play for his first of the season, fed by Josh Marsh (1A). Sung (2G) added insurance late, set up by Jay Noh (1A). Delta’s streak and its perfect home record both ended there.
Yale Hockey Academy (3) vs North Shore Warriors (0) U15 Prep
North Shore had played all five of its games on the road, so the Warriors’ home opener at North Shore Winter Club was a long time coming. Yale Hockey Academy didn’t let them enjoy it. After a scoreless first, Owen Dumansky (1G) broke through less than three minutes into the second, finishing a play from Jack Hagen (1A) and Gavin Bruinsma (1A). RJ Livingston (1G) doubled the lead with 84 seconds left in the period, set up by defenceman Ethan Evans (1A) and Brady Barrett (2A). That was plenty for Mason Baptiste, who kept a clean sheet in the YHA crease while North Shore came up empty on four power plays, three of them in the third. Barrett (2A) wasn’t done. With 13 seconds left and the Warriors a man short, he and blueliner Killian Wall (1A) set up Scotty Sims (1G) for the final goal.
St. George’s School U18 Prep (4) vs STAR Hockey Academy U18 Prep (5/OT) U18 Prep
Twenty shots in the third period turned a lopsided afternoon into an overtime game. St. George’s trailed 4-1 after Dylan Gale (1G) scored early in the third. That was the latest blow in a day STAR had started with Liam Yackel (2G, 1A) beating Carter Adams 20 seconds after the opening faceoff. Yackel (2G, 1A) struck again with 53 seconds left in the first, both times with Sean Strasser (2A) and Carter Como (3A) on the play, and Blaise Weibye (1G) supplied the goal in between. Then the visitors came alive. Beck Charlton (1G) started the push midway through the third, and Nathaniel Moore (1G) converted a power play two minutes later. Jason Gao (1G, 1A), who had fed Jayan Sinha (1G, 1A) for a first-period power-play goal, tied it at 14:27. Griffin Fair (33/37) held from there, and 95 seconds into overtime, Adam Neilson (1G) settled it unassisted.
Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (1) vs South Alberta Hockey Academy (10) Women’s U18 Prep
The Pilot Mound Buffaloes and South Alberta Hockey Academy finished the first period levelled at one goal apiece, with a pair of returnees in Teylor Crocker (3G, 1A) and Bella Ferguson trading blows to send the game forward at 1-1. Crocker wouldn’t go away in the second, scoring a perfect wrist-shot before helping Maria Facca (1G, 3A) score SAHA’s third powerplay goal of the game to that point already, sending them into the third with a 3-1 lead. Crocker scored to cap off her hat-trick in the third, with SAHA throwing seven past PMHA in the final twenty minutes to win 10-1.
South Alberta Hockey Academy (5) vs Notre Dame Hounds (2) U18 Prep
It took Medicine Hat Tigers first-round pick Max Osgood (1G, 1A) a mere 85 seconds to get SAHA in front in Wilcox, with Swift Current Broncos prospect Cohenn Rotar (2G) doubling the lead before the break. SAHA’s offence made sure it didn’t get easier for Notre Dame from there, with Rotar popping up to grab his second of the game, and Seattle Thunderbirds prospect Dylan Sherban scoring in the second period for South Alberta. Notre Dame hung around and never stopped their fight, but ultimately couldn’t get closer than finishing the game behind 5-2 to SAHA.
Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (0) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (12) U18 Prep
Penticton Vees prospect Talon Scinocca (2G, 2A) got the party started for OHA in Penticton on Friday, scoring the first goals of both the first and second periods, helping his team score four in the second and take a 6-0 lead into the third. Nathan Marques (2G) popped up to score two, becoming the third OHA player by that point in the game to score twice, with Marques, Scinocca, Cooper Vogt (2G), Bennett Wheatley (2G, 3A) and Ollie Halowaty (2G, 2A) finishing the game by hitting the net twice apiece in OHA’s 12-0 win.
Calgary International Hockey Academy (7) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (3) U18 Prep
It took until barely past the halfway mark of the first period of play on Friday for the Calgary International Hockey Academy to mount a 3-0 lead over the Buffaloes in Pilot Mound, with their U18 Prep squad not done there. Rylan Wood’s first season in U18 Prep continued on nicely with a goal in the second, before a chaotic third period that saw both teams score three apiece, with seven different skaters scoring for Calgary in their 7-3 win.
Notre Dame Hounds (1) vs RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (4) U17 Prep
The shots-on-goal divide as the game went on indicated the control RINK Winnipeg had over their Friday night clash with Notre Dame, with the 5-2-0 Hounds unable to keep pace with a RHAW squad that grabbed a huge performance from Max Sanders in the first period. After going goalless in his first five U17 Prep games of the year, Sanders started October with a goal against RINK Kelowna before Friday’s performance. Sanders scored two goals in 31 seconds in the first to launch RHAW in front, with two goals in the second period from Grayson Speirs pushing Winnipeg’s lead further beyond the reach of the Hounds. RHAW locked the door in the third, maintaining their lead in what ended as a 4-1 win.
Shawnigan Lake School (7) vs Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (1) U17 Prep
An offensive explosion in the first period of play from the Shawnigan Lake School side that has started their U17 Prep season with six wins in nine games set the standard for how Shawnigan’s Friday would go, with a 4-0 lead through twenty minutes, just the start of a game in which they’d not cease their offensive pressure. Shawnigan scored again in the second, with Max Hoeft extending their lead, before two more in the third put the cap on a 7-1 SLS win.
Northern Alberta Xtreme (3) vs OHA Edmonton (1) U18 Prep
An OHA Edmonton squad in need of a positive result after a 1-3-1 start came up against their close-proximity rival in the Northern Alberta Xtreme in Friday night’s U18 Prep action, but unfortunately, they ran into Hudson Gauld. Gauld was quiet in NAX’s most recent game, a loss to Prairie, but popped up with two massive moments in the first period on Friday, with his fifth and sixth goals of the season establishing a two-goal lead that would be the basis of the Xtreme’s victory. Lincoln Eaves scored in the second, with a solitary OHA goal from Brayden Tucker only enough to keep OHA Edmonton in the game. NAX held on for the 3-1 win, with Dawson Sheehan stopping 31 of 32 to grab the victory in between the pipes for NAX.
RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (5) vs Indigenous Sports Academy (1) U17
RHA Winnipeg’s U17 squad needed barely more than half of the first period to race out to a 3-0 lead on Friday against ISA, with Julien Crook’s two goals in the first just the start of RHAW’s night. ISA didn’t roll over, with RHAW’s Andrew Wilkinson needing to face down 41 shots, but he turned 40 away, and was helped by second-period goals from Kyler Nepinak and Kellan Hermiston (1G, 1A) in his team’s eventual 5-1 win.
North Shore Warriors Orange (0) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (8) Women’s U18 Prep
Shots on goal through twenty minutes of play on Friday between the North Shore Warriors Orange and Okanagan Hockey Academy Women’s U18 Prep division were 22-1 in favour of OHA. Shots on goal in the second were 15-2, bringing the total to that point to 37-3 for OHA. That considered, North Shore holding OHA to just three goals through the first forty minutes was somewhat commendable. However, in the third, the tilt of the ice only favoured Okanagan further. They outshot the Warriors 22-1 again in the third and scored five, with Eden Crowe (3G) scoring two to complete a hat-trick, Meagan Zalaski scoring two, and Sadie Swanton and Prestley Starr’s three assists apiece leading OHA to the 8-0 win.
North Shore Warriors (1) vs Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (5) U17
The Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy’s Ewan Reid came into Friday’s clash with North Shore coming off his best performance of the season. After two assists in his first nine games, Reid picked up three assists against North Shore on October 18. It would only get better for him and for the Wings, with Reid first scoring a shorthanded goal in the first, before extending Coeur d’Alene’s lead to 3-0 in the second, and providing the primary assist on Blake Legler’s goal in the third. His three-point performance led the way, with Ayden Olynick’s (22/23) steady performance between the pipes aiding Coeur d’Alene’s 5-1 win.
RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (3) vs BWC Academy (4) U17
RHA Kelowna took a 2-1 lead into the third period on Friday, with Oliver Peck’s goal and assist in the first period enough to lead RHAK into the final twenty in front. Matthias Gallina (2G, 1A) scored to tie the game early in the period, but Declan Smith responded, making it 3-2 Kelowna heading into the last two and a half minutes of the game. Gallina, however, would strike again, tying a game that seemed destined for overtime. Max Goodman’s rocket from the blue line with 23 seconds left in the game changed that, giving BWC Academy the 4-3 win in dramatic fashion.
